Be careful what you wish for certainly holds true here. But even that is a double-edged sword for him. And we see his excitement as he’s finally accepted into MI6 he can finally be more like his “Daddy” Kael. His sweet exuberant spirit is just as endearing. So, this time around, even though he does struggle to get his act together, Kael’s appeal has tarnished.Īngel is another matter. “Psychopath” comes close to describing him. Kael believes he is above the law and fuck everyone who doesn’t like it. “The intimacy of thrusting a sharp blade into a man’s jugular vein gives me a sense of release, a feeling of absolute liberation that lifts me above the ordinary… That’s what I was seeking… Catharsis and euphoria.” He’s inflexible he feels absolutely no moral scruples for his actions. So, Kael comes off as a boorish bully and, like most of that ilk, his actions set up an atmosphere of negativity and fear. For all his professed smarts, Kael can’t see past his nose. He keeps making the same mistakes with Angel. He is held hostage by his anger and is adamant about not getting help for it. He’s pissed off about the father he doesn’t know gaining prominence as an important political figure in the world. It’s also so steeped in Kael’s anger issues. It’s the fourth book in the series and I want the set-up to be shorter and get to the action quicker.
